Hot right now in my four layers: t-shirt, plaid cowboyish shirt, old-school pullover sweater, tweed jacket. Taking off the tweed jacket (took off the comfy scarf when first getting here).
The weather is my lover. Fifties (low tens celsius), drizzle, balmy, clean-smelling. Vancouverites know what I'm talking about (guess what I'm missing?). I was carrying Jude's bright yellow shield and scabbard (both homemade) while chaperoning the trick-or-treaters, and some mom's thought I was dressed up like Harry Potter.
I ditched The Blank Slate and A People's History of the United States and The Immortal Profession at the library tonight. I had been reading all three at once. I stopped reading Moby-Dick two weeks ago. Why do I choose to read four books at once? And then not finish them? Does this say something deep and profound about me? All of the books were incredible and educational books. But it is nearly impossible to read four books at once (especially of such disparate material and writing style).
My new readings will be along the more religious and spiritual: The Gospel in Dostoevsky (with wood-cuttings of beautiful anguish my Eichenberg) and Schmemann's For the Life of the World.
One question, before I close: why do I feel the need to publish this personal imformation on the internet? I wish I knew.

~sigh~
me too, isaiah. me too.
what compels us to this confessional(can we call it that?), online journal, whatever this really is, I do not know.
*For the Life of the World* is a great great book. I first read it when I found a copy in the Value Village in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1999. Yep, quite a find! Savour it, Isaih, it's a good one.
Ah Vancouver weather. We had several trick or treaters ourselves, even through the drizzle. Even though we didn't get to see you guys much when you were here, it was nice to know you were around. Esme is gorgeous! And I can't believe how big Jude is getting, he's a real boy! I will always remember him singing Beatles songs in your VW on the way to Stanley Park, it felt like something out of a movie. IF you want to see pictures of our Sienna (born august 10th) go to www.thekelleyfam.com
if your boy sings beatles songs at such a young age then your family is cool according to me.
hello. it sounded to me like you were a friend of St. Herman's. and any friend of theirs is a friend of mine. although im in the middle of Canada i can still keep in touch with them. and that my friend is why you feel you need to publish your personal feelings on the interweb. so that you will never loose touch with your friends and that you may find new people to keep in touch with. i post stuff so that i can talk with my orthodox family even though im miles away.
you should check out the community blog of st herman's if you havent already.
God Bless!
Hello to all. Thanks for the comments. To Lara, it is good to hear from you! We have seen pictures of Sienna after she was first born. We were captivated by her beauty, not to mention how proud and happy you both looked. We also swooned when we saw you all against a very familiar background: Stanley Park on the beach facing the North Shore.
Gabe, Lara (and her husband Jeff) are friends we initially knew in Holland, MI, where we came from before coming to Vancouver. They are going to Regent.
Actually, I should ask you, Lara, how much longer will you be there? We ourselves hope to be coming back in the summer of next year.
Thanks again.
P.S. How do I sign up for the St. Herman's blog?
Email Dave Pasivirta.
